Deen Relief operates several long-term campaigns which includes the Bangladesh Housing Aid project. This aims to provide the most vulnerable members of society in Sylhet, Bangladesh with one of life’s most basic needs – a secure home. In a country which is known for its extreme floods and storms, it is important that these homes can withstand adverse weather conditions.
Back in early 2019, Deen Relief was made aware of 8-year-old Juber, an orphan child who had already lost his father, Mahmood Ali. Juber, an only child, was left with his mother, Khaleka, to take care of him. She was not in any stable employment and got by mainly through begging. At the time, both mother and son were living in abject poverty in their village in a run-down dwelling which was not fit for habitation. They were in desperate need of shelter.
With the generous help of our supporters, Deen Relief successfully raised £2,250 to build them a new home. Alhamdulillah, with that money, we managed to build Juber and his mother a 2-bedroom house in their village of Dowlotpur, Sylhet. It was constructed using bricks together with a tin roof supported by a metal frame. This project was completed within the month of Ramadan, 2019, itself an amazing achievement, Alhamdulillah. Mother and son were able move in soon after.
